We are pleased to announce Water Tracking, a new mode of operation for the A50 DVL and A125 DVL, available as a free firmware update.

Developed in response to customer requests, Water Tracking provides velocity information when the DVL is unable to achieve bottom lock. The feature works by identifying acoustic reflections from the water column and calculating velocity relative to the water. This enables ROVs and AUVs to maintain improved navigation performance in deep-water operations, where bottom tracking may not be available.

Water Tracking measures current velocity at a set distance below the DVL, using reflections from the water column in the range of approximately 1.5 to 4.5 meters below the instrument. When the DVL is unable to lock onto the seabed, this mode can provide valuable velocity data to support an INS and enhance vehicle positioning accuracy.

Water Tracking is available for all Water Linked DVL A50 and A125 units through a free firmware update. The feature is also available on the recently launched DVL A100 and A250.
